KKS grammar school teachers on fact-finding mission in LondonIllness unfortunately stopped some to join the group of seventeen that took the road to Greater London at the end of January. Based in the Kingston-Richmond area the group gathered at the DSL (German School London) to begin a tour through Richmond and the city of London in beautiful sunshine. Visits to various English schools, historical sights, Richmond Theatre and the London opera were also included as was a reception at the German embassy at Belgrave Square and the renowned King's College university, a member of the top British universities, the Russell group, at the Strand campus. Among other things intercultural competence was achieved by visiting cosy public houses and eating a traditional succulent North Sea haddock or cod with crispy chips, apple crumble with custard or scones along with a cup of tea. It was almost the feeling William Wordsworth had when he wrote his famous poem in 1802: " Composed Upon Westminster Bridge"
Earth has not anything to show more fair: Dull would he be of soul who could pass by A sight so touching in its majesty: This city now doth garment wear The beauty of the morning;silent, bare, Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie Open unto the fields, and to the sky, All bright and glittering in the smokeless air. Never did the sun more beautifully steep In his first splendour, valley, rock, or hill; Ne`er saw I, never felt a calm so deep! The river glideth at his own sweet will: Dear God! The very houses seem asleep; And all that might heart is lying still!
