Käthe-Kollwitz-Schule

The acronym THIMUN stands for The Hague International Model United Nations.

During the annual session of the UN simulation in the City of The Hague, Netherlands, about 4000 students of various schools from all over the world gather for one week in order to debate all the issues which are also discussed in the real UN conference in New York. Each participating  school is assigned a specific country, which it then represents in the conference in The Hague every year in January. The school club prepares students in three aspects:

• a) Information about the country that we represent: policy, economy, facts and figures,
• b) Practice debating rules,
• c) Learn how to write resolutions.

These aspects are  usually taught to the 12 participating students (grades 10 through 13) in the first semester of the school year and the debates are in English as the lingua franca of the conference.  After having participated each student is rewarded with a certificate.

Since the fees are pretty high the students do a lot of fundraising and are also financially supported by the parents' organization (Freunde der KKS). Nevertheless, each delegate pays about 200€ for the organizers of the conference, plus the hotel and the trip, so that approximately 400€ (including breakfast, lunch and public transportation) are due for the one-week field trip to The Hague, an experience that you will never ever forget and which is worth more than the money it costs.
